Some Stargirl members of the cast react to the cancellation of the Arrowverse series. The year 2022 has not been kind to The CW and its Arrowverse franchise, as the network has dealt with new owners behind the scenes. After combining The WB & UPN into CW in 2006, the network’s owners sold 75% of the network to Nexstar, causing a ripple effect throughout all of its ongoing programming. For the Arrowverse, which is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, both Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were canceled by The CW after their season finales earlier this year. Naomi, a DC TV rookie unrelated to the Arrowverse, was likewise canceled only after one season.
While The Flash and Superman & Lois were both renewed for seasons 9 and 3, respectively, the former will complete its run in 2023, leaving the latter to see what happens after the following season. The CW will also debut a new DC TV drama, Gotham Knights, next year, with no connections to any of the current shows. While Stargirl third season has kept the Arrowverse alive this autumn, The CW stated on Monday that season 4 would not be renewed. The series finale of Stargirl will broadcast in early December.

Following The CW’s formal announcement that Stargirl will be ending its run, numerous long-time members of the cast have spoken out about the cancellation. Brec Bassinger, Anjelika Washington, Joy Osmanski, and Neil Hopkins, who play Courtney Whitmore, Beth Chapel/Dr. Mid-Nite, Tigress, and Sportmaster, were among those who responded. They all took to social media to express their feelings at the end of Stargirl.
How Stargirl Might Reappear In The Arrowverse

With the cancellation of Stargirl, the characters no longer have their own show, but that doesn’t mean their presence in the Arrowverse is over. While Stargirl isn’t a standard Arrowverse spinoff, it is related to the series because Crisis on Infinite Earths revealed that the DC drama takes place on a reimagined Earth-2, formerly a parallel reality explored in The Flash. Stargirl could appear in The Flash season 9 or Superman & Lois season 3, both of which take place on Earth-Prime and an unspecified universe. If either show wants to include Stargirl, they might create a multiverse narrative that places Courtney in either universe.
Stargirl may not have a huge possibility of appearing in The Flash season 9 at this moment, unless it happens early in the last season, because the Grant Gustin-led program has several plots closing up before the series finale. If Superman & Lois season 4 goes through, and if there is a creative interest in bringing in the adolescent heroine, it won’t happen for at least a year. However, given the number of episodes canceled by The CW this year, particularly in the superhero genre, it’s uncertain whether there will be much of an Arrowverse left by the 2022-2023 television season.
