As the actor believes his next appearance should be the last, Chris Hemsworth’s tenure as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be coming to an end. One of the final surviving original members of the Avengers team in the MCU is Hemsworth’s Thor. Thor: Love and Thunder once again fundamentally altered the course of his life, leading to the adoption of a daughter and the recovery of Mjolnir following Jane Foster’s passing. The conclusion of Thor 4 suggests that the thunder god is entering a new phase of his superhero journey, one that, if Hemsworth gets his wish, may soon come to a heroic and conclusive end.

Hemsworth talked about the possibility of his original Avenger leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a recent interview with Vanity Fair. In light of the send-offs for Chris Evans’ Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, the outlet questioned him about whether he was hoping for a resolution for Thor’s MCU story. Hemsworth has changed his mind about continuing to portray the thunder god, despite having previously expressed interest in doing so. He now suggests that Thor should make his final MCU appearance, which might result in the hero’s demise for him.

“Yeah, for sure. I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know—am I at that stage? Who knows?”

Chris Hemsworth Wants His Upcoming MCU Appearance As Thor To Be His Last
Marvel

Thor’s MCU story could end in a number of different ways, according to Marvel Studios. By designating Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as Mighty Thor, Thor: Love and Thunder effectively establishes how the series can go on without Chris Hemsworth. Although the movie ended with Jane passing away and going to Valhalla, the Asgardian afterlife is not as lasting as most. Hemsworth and Marvel may agree that it is time for Thor Odinson to pass away. Thor might make a sacrifice in Thor 5 or a different MCU film in order to bring Heimdall, Jane Foster, and all the other dear ones he has lost back to life. Thor might die a heroic death akin to Iron Man as a result of this.

The MCU story of Thor could also come to a conclusion without him passing away, opening the door for Chris Hemsworth to return at a later time if Marvel or he so chooses. Despite all of Thor’s adventures throughout the MCU, he has never really had the chance to assume the throne of Asgard. Thor could remove his people from Earth and establish a new safe haven for them as the conclusion to his story. Thor and the Asgardians could then move to an unnamed location in the MCU until Marvel Studios might need to use them once more.

Of course, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars could provide Chris Hemsworth with the heroic demise he desires for Thor in his upcoming appearance. Numerous theories have suggested that in either movie, Thor may lose his life while battling Kang the Conqueror. After Thor & Loki reunite through the multiverse, Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston may have the opportunity to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe together in these films. There is a good chance that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will leave Marvel Studios sooner rather than later given the studio’s collaborative relationship with its biggest stars.
