Zach Gilford, a star of Criminal Minds: Evolution, teases an unexpected episode 9 by mentioning some shocking character choices. Even though it ended in 2020, the popular CBS crime drama Criminal Minds has returned for a 10-episode revival on Paramount+ with a large portion of the original cast. Before the holidays, the show’s first five episodes were broadcast, and they ended on a major cliffhanger with Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) and JJ (AJ Cook) being caught in an explosive trap set by the season’s main antagonist, Gilford’s Elias Voit. On January 12, Criminal Minds: Evolution will return.
It appears that viewers will experience plenty more surprises after the mid-season finale’s cliffhanger is resolved. Gilford gives a tantalizing sneak peek at what viewers can anticipate from Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 9 in an interview with TVLine. Gilford predicts that some characters will astound viewers with their decisions in this, the season’s fifth and final episode. In his own words:
“You can tell you’re getting to the end [of the season] because everything’s starting to kind of potentially unravel. People start making decisions they wouldn’t normally make, that I think will surprise the audience but also surprise these characters.”

How The Characters In Criminal Minds: Evolution Have Changed

With a few notable exceptions, Criminal Minds: Evolution benefits from using the same cast as the original series. A health scare for JJ and her husband Will (Josh Stewart) or Penelope Garcia’s (Kirsten Vangsness) conflicted feelings about rejoining the FBI are just two examples of how the move to streaming has given the creative team more space to explore the lives and personalities of the various Behavioral Analysis Unit agents. Many people have praised Criminal Minds: Evolution for developing its characters even more, and it appears that the remaining five episodes will keep up this trend.
The stage is set for Criminal Minds: Evolution to force the BAU agents far further than ever before because Gilford teases character decisions that even the characters themselves are surprised by. Some of the characters in the revival have already been put in unusual situations. For instance, David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) unexpectedly entered Criminal Minds: Evolution while drowning in grief over the loss of his wife. It follows that episode 9 might contain unexpected turns for any of the main characters on Criminal Minds. Nothing is currently off the table.
What To Anticipate In The Remaining Episodes Of Criminal Minds: Evolution

Later this month, when Criminal Minds: Evolution returns, the BAU will still be looking for Voit, also known as “Sicarius.” Voit established a network of serial killers during the coronavirus pandemic, which has been incredibly challenging to track down. Despite the fact that the BAU had discovered their best lead to date during the mid-season finale, things became more challenging once Alvez and JJ were in danger. In episode 6, Criminal Minds: Evolution will probably find the answer to the question of what happened to them, and the remaining episodes of the season may focus on the agents’ processing and recovery. Additionally, because Criminal Minds: Evolution is only scheduled for these 10 episodes at this time, viewers can anticipate a definitive conclusion to the Sicarius saga by the very end.
