Millie Bobby Brown, star of Stranger Things, believes Nancy (Natalie Dyer) should end up with Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) rather than Steve (Joe Keery). Stranger Things, a popular sci-fi series, became a Netflix hit upon its premiere in 2016, and its success has lasted, with each succeeding season raking in outstanding watching figures and great reviews. With a vast ensemble cast and equally compelling plot lines across age levels, the show has something for everyone, as youngsters, adults, & teens all have their chance to shine each season. Going into Stranger Things season 5, one area of the series that has sparked much speculation is Nancy’s romantic life, with season 4 hinting at a replay of the series’ big love triangle between Nancy’s ex-boyfriend Steve & current lover Jonathan.

During an appearance in a Vanity Fair video, Stranger Things’ Eleven star Millie Bobby Brown expressed her thoughts on Nancy’s dating life. Brown, who has been nominated for two Emmys for her performance as the superpowered preteen, is solidly on Team ‘Jancy,’ claiming that Nancy and Steve do not belong together in the long term. See what Brown had to say about it below:

“[Nancy should pick] Jonathan…because he’s kind, and he might just need a little bit more time to grow into himself, as a man.”

While Nancy and Jonathan did not act on their emotions for one another in the Stranger Things season 1 finale due to Nancy being still with Steve at the time, they did get together in season 2, and their romance is still continuing strong despite a few setbacks in season 3. However, in Stranger Things season 4, the couple struggled with maintaining a long-distance relationship, reevaluating their future and objectives both individually and as a couple. Nancy was able to witness Steve’s growth in season 4 as a result of being physically in the same place as her ex-boyfriend, and romantic feelings just seems to spark once again between the former couple, leaving many wondering if Steve will eventually be Nancy’s match at the end of the season 5, which will be the series’ final installment.

The show’s writers, Matt and Ross Duffer, have previously hinted at this possibility, noting that Steve has grown tremendously since season one and Nancy is finally realizing the changes in her ex-boyfriend. Many people involved with the program have spoken out about the potential love triangle scenario, with Robin actor Maya Hawke noting that Nancy should conclude the season single and focus on her blossoming profession as a reporter. While it appears like Nancy will have to choose between Jonathan & Steve in season 5, Brown’s feelings reflect those of many Stranger Things fans, who believe that Nancy already has her perfect fit in Jonathan as a result of the couple’s progress as a couple and mutual support of one another.

In terms of the best character arc for Nancy, most of her story has been around the girl being underestimated by others around her. Nancy has established herself as a highly accomplished character throughout the previous four seasons, frequently serving as the voice of reason in the sometimes painfully clueless town of Hawkins. Whatever happens with her love life, the perfect Stranger Things season conclusion would see Nancy pursue her dreams and move on from the tragic events of her adolescence, with or without Jonathan by her side.
