As early as it may seem, Kang actor Jonathan Majors says he has already begun talking with director Destin Daniel Cretton about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Majors is set to be the Avengers’ next significant foe after Thanos. After making his Loki debut as He Who Remains, There is obviously a lot of pressure on him to live up to Josh Brolin’s standards as a Marvel Studios villain. But before he takes center stage in his movie, Majors will return to the part in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Recently, Marvel Studios rearranged their previously announced schedule, which involved postponing a few movies like Blade and Avengers: Secret Wars. The release date for Cretton’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty remains 2025. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to lay the foundation for its upcoming climactic event, plot details for the movie are still scarce. The project appears to be moving along well behind the scenes, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Cretton in charge of Avengers 5 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Jeff Loveness penning the script.
Majors confirm to Variety that he has already started talking to Cretton about playing Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, despite the fact that his attention has been on playing Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Since there has been no mention of the actor’s return in Loki season 2, it is unknown if he will appear in any other projects in between the films. Majors has nothing but positive things to say about the director of Avengers 5 despite their brief interaction. Below is the actor’s complete quote:
“Well, we just had a few chats. We spoke a very long time, and he’s an open mind, he’s an open heart, and he’s grounded. He and the work that he does is grounded, and I think that’s the most important part about it, that we’re dealing with myths, you know? What is a Kang? What is a movie? What is an MCU movie, you know? What does that mean? What does that look like? Those are the questions we’re asking, but all of that works when it’s grounded and really, really tucked into the given circumstances of what’s going on between these people, and what we can illuminate for ourselves as a species.”

Whatever the case, it makes sense that Majors and Cretton are already planning how Kang will fit into the plot of Avengers 5. It is safe to assume that because he is the main character, more of his story will be revealed in the film. The fact that the two have never collaborated before should also be noted. They may just be getting to know one another during the conversation, but from Major’s quote, it sounds like they connected right away, which is encouraging. Also worth mentioning is the fact that Marvel Studios has always valued the opinions of the entire cast and crew. This collaborative mindset is supported by Majors’ early involvement in the creation of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
To put things in perspective, the Russo Brothers and authors Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely began writing Avengers: Infinity War around the time Captain America: Civil War was released, which is the same time frame that Marvel Studios is currently working with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The movie might feature a lot more characters than Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, so more planning is necessary. Kevin Feige has previously stated that Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars will be bigger than their predecessors. They might even be rushing things. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’s final story still needs to be decided by the filmmakers in order for production to begin sometime in 2023.
