Patty Jenkins states that the third Wonder Woman script is complete. When Wonder Woman debuted in theaters in the summer of 2017, it quickly became a critical and commercial success. Jenkins received a lot of accolades for the movie, which convinced Warner Bros. to hire her to helm the sequel.

Wonder Woman 1984 was originally scheduled for release in 2019 but was repeatedly postponed, in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and finally released in December 2020 on HBO Max and in a few select cinemas. The movie garnered mixed to unfavorable reviews and was viewed by many as a significant step down from its predecessor. As more people signed up for HBO Max thanks to Wonder Woman 1984, it continued to be popular. It was also the best-selling movie on home video in 2021. Wonder Woman 3 has been in development for a while, but Jenkins had been hinting at it before Wonder Woman 1984 came out. This is especially true given how Warner Bros. Discovery has handled numerous DC projects.

Jenkins has recently provided an interesting update regarding the script for the DC superhero movie, so Wonder Woman 3 may be closer than you think. Jenkins stated last week that she finished scripting the final scene of Wonder Woman 3 when giving a speech as a guest at the Matera Film Festival in Italy. Jenkins admitted that while a trilogy has been in the works, she is still considering what might come after Wonder Woman 3, suggesting that she will make additional sequels. Below is the complete quote from Jenkins:

“And so, where I said that I was only going to do one, then oh my god, I have to do two. And then, I find myself saying, ‘Oh my god, I’m antsy to do three.’ And so, even now, I say, ‘That’s it’ because I always plan a three-movie arc. There is a story that goes through these three different movies as a whole. But even now, I just wrote last week the final scene of Wonder Woman 3 and I thought, I might be interested to see what happens next. So you’ll never know. They have asked us to think of ways to do more and it accidentally happens. But you’ll never know. I have a lot of other films that I’m excited to do as well. And I love Gal Gadot so that makes it better too.”

Wonder Woman’s future in the DC Extended Universe

The Wonder Woman 3 Script Is Finished, According To Patty Jenkins
Wonder Woman

Lynda Carter is anticipated to return in Wonder Woman 3 despite the lack of plot information. Star Gal Gadot confirmed this. Carter played Wonder Woman in the 1970s television series and made a cameo appearance as Asteria, an old Amazon who stayed behind in the world of men so her Amazon sister could flee to the island of Themyscira, in the Wonder Woman 1984 after-credit scene. While the first two Wonder Woman films were historical dramas, it is anticipated that Wonder Woman 3 will take place in the DCEU of the present after the events of Justice League.

Wonder Woman 3 has no confirmed release date as of yet. Jenkins was supposed to helm Wonder Woman 3 following Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, but because the movie was recently taken off the Disney release schedule, it’s possible that Jenkins may now work on Wonder Woman 3. The earliest that Wonder Woman 3 may debut is in 2024, which would be both four and seven years after Wonder Woman 1984 and the first movie, respectively. The only DC movie currently scheduled to debut that year is Joker: Folie à Deux. The DC Extended Universe’s future is uncertain, and Warner Bros. It’s safe to say that Wonder Woman 3 is a top priority for the studio while Discovery looks for new leadership for the series.
