While critics have remained largely divided in their assessments of his films, Snyder has amassed a sizable fan base, with many of them even launching a campaign to help restore his original Justice League vision after he left the film during post-production.

How The Release The Snyder Cut Movement Shocked Hollywood

Following the polarizing reaction to Joss Whedon’s redirected theatrical cut of Justice League, the Snyder Cut movement grew to become one of the most influential and infamous fan groups in film history. A significant portion of the movement supported Snyder’s efforts to raise awareness for suicide prevention and mental health, with the group raising over $750k in donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, an effort Snyder has praised fans for. Their three years of lobbying for Snyder to get a new edit of the film with the unused footage he had spent years teasing paid off when WB announced they will be moving forward with the project, offering the filmmaker an additional $70 million to complete the visual effects, cut a new edit, and shoot minor additional footage.

However, the Release the Snyder Cut Movement is not universally regarded favorably, with many toxic people infamously sending death threats to WB executives in the hopes of bringing the alternate cut to life. While Snyder has focused his praise on the positive aspects of the movement, they have not gone unnoticed by those involved in the production. This past September, Justice League storyboard artist Jay Oliva criticized the toxic side of the fan base, believing that there needs to be a spread of “positive discourse” to highlight the movement & Snyder’s efforts for suicide prevention awareness, instead of further establishing a negative connotation for them.

Many fans are wondering if Zack Snyder will return to the DC Universe at some point in the future, especially after his troubles with WB putting together Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The filmmaker recently stated that he has yet to contact anyone following James Gunn’s appointment as co-Chairman of DC Studios, but that he is mostly busy “doing my thing” with the Rebel Moon & Army of the Dead franchises at Netflix. Even if he doesn’t come back to the comic book franchise, Snyder’s post above demonstrates how moved he will always be by those who helped bring Zack Snyder’s Justice League to life.
