According to rumors, Charlie Cox will play the crime-fighting attorney in a number of upcoming projects, which means that Daredevil will make a full comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Despite rumors that Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones would appear in Daredevil: Born Again, recent developments suggest that Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher might take her place.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. For longtime Marvel fans, this was both an exciting and a lot of question-raising moments. Whether or not the Daredevil Netflix continuity was regarded as canon was one frequently asked question. How many of the other Netflix heroes would return after Daredevil’s appearance was another query from viewers.

Insider KC Walsh recently responded to a tweet that claimed Alaqua Cox’s character Echo would indeed return for a cameo in Daredevil: Born Again. “I know I was in denial about this but it sounds like another popular character will show up as well due to a scheduling conflict as it appears they will take the rumored role Jessica Jones had.” Walsh wrote in response. Many people were curious about the identity of the “popular character,” and KC Walsh later responded with a GIF of Bernthal as The Punisher.

Although The Punisher’s return has been widely predicted, it won’t be known for certain until much closer to the release of Daredevil: Born Again. Ritter has previously expressed interest in reprising her role as Jessica Jones, so Walsh is right when she says it’s very likely that scheduling issues made it difficult for Ritter to return as the well-known superhero turned investigator. Ritter plays the lead role In the Orphan Black spin-off.

Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Rumored to Appear in Daredevil: Born Again
Marvel Studios

Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and the Punisher are just a few of the many other heroes that Netflix has introduced to television. There is no information available regarding the future of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Elektra, Colleen Wing, or even Misty Knight. Jessica Henwick recently declined a part in Shang-Chi because she believed it would prevent her from playing Colleen Wing again. However, aside from Daredevil, Marvel Studios has not publicly disclosed plans for Wing or any of the other Netflix heroes.

Maybe Daredevil’s fellow Netflix heroes will be brought back by Marvel Studios, or maybe only a few, like Jessica Jones and The Punisher, will. Fans are probably hoping for a definitive response soon in either case.

Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to release on Disney+ sometime in the spring of 2024.
