A clue to the identity of the Ghostface killer may be concealed in plain sight in the Scream 6 trailer, astute viewers have noticed. The sixth installment of the Scream series will follow the main survivors from Scream 2022 to New York City: Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding), and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown). They attempt to stop a new wave of Ghostface killings there by teaming up with previous survivors Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) & Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), as well as a new police officer character played by Dermot Mulroney.

The official Scream 6 trailer was released by Paramount Pictures today, and it provides important details about the new Ghostface killer, who poses a threat to be unique and more potent than any other killer in the franchise. This Ghostface is seen brandishing a gun and is revealed to be maintaining a shrine to the previous killers from the previous five movies, among other things. The character played by Tony Revolori is wearing a shirt that makes reference to the 1971 Dario Argento film Four Flies on Grey Velvet. While the identity of this new killer will remain a mystery until the film’s release on March 10, a number of fans have begun speculating who could be the killer. What Scream 6 Could Learn From The Four Flies On Grey Velvet Reference

The Argento classic’s plot feels eerily similar to overarching themes from the Scream movies, which is why the reference to Four Flies on Grey Velvet feels pointed. In the movie, a man is being stalked when he accidentally kills the stalker. A new masked killer then shows up and tries to frame the man for the murder. This plot has echoes in the original 1996 Scream, that follows a new wave of murders on the anniversary of the passing of Sidney Prescott’s mother (Neve Campbell), whom Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber) had wrongly accused of the crime.

While that might be the case in and of itself, a hint from a recent Scream 6 poster that was made available online points in the same direction. One of the billboards in Times Square featured in that image read, “Wrongly Accused: The Musical.” The idea of someone being falsely accused will probably return in a big way in the new sequel, given that the other billboards contain phrases tailored to the plot of Scream 6 (such as a reference to Blackmore University, the college that the trailer seems to reveal Gooding’s character now attends).

Sam Carpenter, one of the original Ghostface killers and a covert descendant of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), is most likely to be that person. Her search for the new killer in Scream 6 would be more urgent if her secret had been discovered because she might have been accused of planning the murders from Scream 2022. Regarding the Four Flies on Grey Velvet shirt, it might simply be a clever allusion to this plot point or, as some fans have speculated, it might allude to the fact that Revolori’s persona is this time around one of the murderers.
